Description

Asian Pacific American Student Association (APAMSA) The Asian Pacific American Student Association runs a few community projects, namely: APA Health Fairs, Bone Marrow Registration Drives, Hepatitis B Education, Screening and Vaccination Effort, and a Minority Health Conference.
Center for Health Promotion & Disease Prevention The work of the UCLA Center for Health Promotion & Disease Prevention currently focuses primarily on addiction and HIV. The Center integrates scientific and technological advancements from the best in academia with the strength of communities in order to develop interventions, to facilitate implementation, and to conduct clinical services, especially in communities with healthcare disparities.
Center for the Study of Latino Health & Culture Through its various projects, the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture/Centro de Estudios de Salud y Cultura Latina (CESLA) provides a focus for teaching, research, evaluation, technical assistance, and training in different facets of Latino health. In addition to public health, CESLA has informed the public about Latino demographics and issues related to welfare and immigration.
Dental Post-Baccalaureate PREP Program In conjunction with UCLA Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Enrichment Program, the School of Medicine provides an academic-enrichment program for approximately 10-15 promising disadvantaged pre-dental students who have completed their bachelor's degrees. This program is conducted on the UCLA campus over seven weeks during the summer and is sponsored by The California Endowment.
Department of Family Medicine The UCLA Department of Family Medicine has a tripartite mission to educate medical students, residents, and practicing physicians; to provide health care in a number of diverse clinical settings; and to perform research in health services, education, and clinical medicine relevant to urban family medicine.
InnoWorks InnoWorks is an innovative science and engineering initiative "By Students, for Students," designed and implemented by college volunteers for middle-school students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) The Latino Medical Student Association represents, supports, educates and unifies the US Latino(a) medical students and runs a few community projects at UCLA.
Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA Matttel Children's Hospital provides a healing environment for family-centered care of seriously ill and injured children. Affiliated with David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, teaching, training, and research translate into improved treatment for children locally, nationally, and around the world.
Meals on Wheels The UCLA Medical Center Nutrition Department prepares and packages food for the Meals on Wheels program of West Los Angeles. This program provides nourishing food at a nominal cost to the disabled, aged, and chronically or temporarily ill, and assures a friendly interest and a helping hand so that people can remain self-sufficient in their own homes.
Medical Students Programs The following programs give medical students the opportunity to get involved with a variety of activities impacting the health of patients throughout the Los Angeles region.
Pre-Medical Scholars Institute The Premedical Scholars Institute serves to provide an educational opportunity for promising disadvantaged students who, by virtue of their backgrounds, abilities, concerns, and expressed interests, can serve effectively as future physicians in areas of greatest need.
Student Run Homeless Clinics The Student Run Homeless Clinics is a student-managed service learning outreach project of the UCLA Department of Family Medicine. Throughout the year, UCLA medical students, supervised by faculty, provide free primary care to the homeless population of West Los Angeles, especially at the Santa Monica Shelter-Samoshel and the West Los Angeles Winter Shelter.
RENEW Our mission is to reduce waste and donate medical equipment to developing countries visted by UCLA medical students and faculty.
UCLA Aids Institute The UCLA AIDS Institute coordinates all of the AIDS research, clinical programs, and educational activities at the university and its affiliated teaching hospitals.
UCLA Center on Longevity The UCLA Center on Longevity’s mission is to enhance and extend productive and healthy lives through preeminent research and education on aging. Its goals are to promote collaborative interdisciplinary research that will enhance quality of life and longevity; and to expand life-long learning that will achieve productive and vital aging.
UCLA Family Commons The UCLA Family Commons is a new kind of wellness center that offers family coaching, parenting workshops, and classes in martial arts, mindful awareness, arts and yogo, for all ages.
UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs The research conducted by Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP) investigators includes studies conducted at UCLA and in the field. A recently established Outpatient Clinical Research Center (OCRC) provides an on-site research facility for clinical trials, and will be expanded in the future to include behavioral research. UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic The UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic travels throughout the greater Los Angeles area, providing free eye examinations to people without medical insurance or access to regular medical care. Four trips per week are made to schools and community organizations/clinics serving low-income families and the homeless.
UCLA Ties for Families TIES for Families optimizes the growth and development of children from birth to eighteen with special needs who are, or have been, in foster care, and are in some stage of adoptive or other permanency planning option. The program reduces barriers to permanency for the children by preparing foster and/or adoptive parents, supporting the children and their foster and/or adoptive families with an array of interdisciplinary services, and educating the professionals working with them.
UCLA/Salvation Army Outreach Clinic UCLA medical and dental students work together each month to provide free dental and health screenings and referrals for homeless families at Salvation Army locations in West Los Angeles and Santa Monica. This is the first joint medical-dental student clinic for homeless patients in the country.
Venice Family Clinic Venice Family Clinic is a community-based, non-profit, free clinic with nine sites in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, Inglewood, and Culver City. Its mission is to provide free, quality health care to people in need. An affiliation agreement with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA enables Venice Family Clinic to function as an administrative department and clinical program of the medical school.
