Technical Research Interest:

Dr. Frosch's research is focused on developing and implementing interventions to increase patient participation in clinical decision-making and understanding the effects of health information in the media on behavior.

His current clinically focused work includes a project focused on the implementation of patient decision aids in small community-based primary care practices; a randomized controlled trial evaluating a video decision aid combined with health coaching for patients with type 2 diabetes; and a study exploring whether showing decision aids in community senior centers can be used to help senior citizens play a more active role in clinical decision-making.

At the population level, Frosch is currently examining the impact of prescription drug advertisements on diet and exercise behaviors. Using data from a national grocery store chain, he is also collaborating with colleagues from Cornell University and the University of Wisconsin to examine the impact of health news coverage on consumer's purchasing behaviors.

Dr. Frosch's research is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making (FIMDM). He is a current recipient of a prestigious Investigator Award in Health Policy Research from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He also serves as a consultant for FIMDM, to assist the Foundation in adapting patient decision aids, developed in the United States, for use in Germany.

The author of 37 peer-reviewed papers, he regularly reviews manuscripts for a variety of journals, serves as Associate Editor for Health Psychology and Deputy Editor for the the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
