Dr. Ophoff holds a primary appointment at Utrecht University, the Netherlands, where he is an associate professor in the Department of Medical Genetics and the Rudolf Magnus Institute of Neuroscience. He is an assistant professor of human genetics and psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences. He is the principal investigator of two NIH-funded projects, which are administered by the Center. One project focuses on the characterization of common chromosomal inversions, and the other project is one of the first large-scale genomewide association studies of schizophrenia. Another NIH grant that he has secured will fund a network approach to study gene expression in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
